ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in this book. The book helps children aged 7 to 11 to develop their study skills and thus to promote active learning in Key Stage 2. It provides opportunities for children to be fully involved in their learning by presenting them with problems to solve. The book also helps teacher to make learning active by teaching the necessary study skills that are required for it to take place. Activities that develop active learning present children with problems to solve in a way that suggests means of working out the answers rather than just providing them with information and instructing them as to how to find the answers. Children are encouraged to work collaboratively and engage in exploratory talk in group and pair discussions. Thus children are able to develop the skills of how to study through experimenting, exploring and discovering things for themselves.
