Helping children with special needs
Children with special needs require extra help and support to enable them to develop the study skills necessary for them to cope with their schoolwork. Study buddies operate in pairs, which are carefully selected by the teacher, so that one can pair more able children with children who have learning difficulties. Many children with special needs encounter difficulties in organising themselves and their time. It is important to remind children with learning difficulties to keep a homework diary and you need to check that they are doing so. Children may have difficulty in comprehending what they read for a number of different reasons. Interactive apps can be useful with children with special needs who have short attention spans as a means of developing their concentration skills, e.g. Monster Hunt: The Memory Game in which the Monster hides in various places and the children have to remember where.
