ABSTRACT
This chapter gives a detailed description of the various applications of liquid marbles. First, the application of liquid marbles in microfluidics is discussed. Second, the applications of liquid marbles in the environmental science are described, particularly, in terms of qualitative analyses like gas sensing, pH and oil pollution indicators. Third, the uses of liquid marbles in miniature chemical processes are discussed in relation to chemical syntheses, microbioreactions, blood screening and typing, drug screening, cultivation of microorganisms and cells. Fourth, the uses of liquid marbles as precursors of novel materials like millimetre-sized Pickering emulsions and dry powdered liquid materials like dry water, powdered oils and powdered emulsions are discussed. Lastly, the potential applications of the powdered liquid materials in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries are given.
