ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the interview of Saxophonist and composer Chris Potter, the interview reveals the depth of his passion for music and the positive thought that is at the core of his creativity. Chris Potter born on January 1, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, spent his formative years living in Columbia, South Carolina. He began his professional career in 1990 when legendary trumpet player Red Rodney hired him at nineteen years of age. Potter went on to work with a diversity of bands led by Dave Holland, Paul Motian, Steely Dan, Steve Swallow and Pat Metheny, to name a few. A leader in his own right, his peers have proclaimed him a leading voice of their generation on the saxophone. Upon observing his outer persona, he is truly a kind and generous person, but he clearly takes no prisoners when it comes to expressing his inner self through music.
