Guitarist Bill Frisell, born March 18, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, grew up in Denver, Colorado, and has crossed over in a broad range of musical genres including jazz, fusion, folk, rock, Americana and movie soundtracks. In his interview, Frisell reveals his deeply personal relationship with music. His interview reveals the joy of discovering music at a young age while watching Mickey Mouse Club on television and working through various incarnations of musical experiences like playing clarinet in marching band and going to music school, to eventually finding an outlet for expressing himself by tapping into his childhood discoveries. Frisell also describes his search for a new sound that incorporates guitar pedal effects, bringing him closer to emulating horn players like Freddie Hubbard. His musical influences from the Beach Boys to the Beatles to Wes Montgomery and beyond has led him on a lifetime journey of self-discovery.
