ABSTRACT

In this chapter, students will learn how a boom of Hispanic migration initiated the expansion of Spanish-language newspapers in the United States after World War II. It discusses how the three largest Spanish-language dailies, El Nuevo Herald, La Opinión, and El Diario/La Prensa, became the voice of these communities. With a growing economic potential from Hispanic audiences, newspapers across the country, even Anglo newspapers, began to leverage diversity to broaden their audiences. The chapter also touches on the new technological era that has caused newspapers to adapt to a rapidly changing media landscape due to increased competition from online mediums.
