ABSTRACT
By 1900, the United States had already established itself as a world-class power. After World War I, however, the nation showed promise of becoming the dominant power. In the war years, 1914–18, the nation found itself in a most fortuitous position. While Europe was being crippled, the United States took on new vitality.
