ABSTRACT
AKSAKOVS, THE, were a noble family whose origins went back to pre-Petrine times. Sergei Timofeevich (1791–1859), author of the autobiographical novel The Family Chronicle, has been called the first Slavophile. His sons, Konstantin (1817–60) and Ivan (1823–86), were two of the leading spokesmen of the Slavophile group.
