ABSTRACT
The relevance of political culture for the political transition currently under way in Russia seems clear. While political culture is only one variable among several that will determine whether the outcome of transition is democratic, it may be a particularly important one, given the historical absence of democratic political institutions in Russia. How supportive of democracy are Russians? What evidence do we have that support for democratic political institutions has changed in the postcommunist period?
