ABSTRACT
Past inter-republican migration processes in the USSR fell into three main categories: deportation, organized migration, and spontaneous migration. During Stalin’s time, deportation accounted for a good part of the migration total Organized migration continued under Khrushchev and Brezhnev. But today, as at the outset of the Soviet regime, migration is almost entirely spontaneous, the state having finally withdrawn from the process.
