ABSTRACT

Sofar,mostofourresearchhasdefinedwell-beingin termsofeconomicresources-primarilywealth,earnings, andincome.Thischapteraddsanotherdimension, expandingourscopetoincludeAmericans'accesstothose basicnecessitiesthathaveavitalimpactonourlivingstandard:education,housing,healthcare,andchildcare.We findthatthesameeconomicproblemsdocumentedinearlierchapters-unequalgrowth,stagnantincomesformost families,andincreasedpoverty-havehadanegative impactonoureducationalandhealth-caresystems,housingmarkets,andaccesstochildcare.
