ABSTRACT
The Tower Notebook Sir Henry Neville’s Notebook of ‘Extracts Copyed and collected out of the Recordes in the Tower Ann: 1602’ has been briefly described here in Chapter 2. Its connections to the play of Henry VIII were also summarized. However, there are even more links between Neville and the theme and dramatis personae of that play. These links will of course be more comprehensible now that the story of Sir Henry’s life has been told. But the best way to understand the circumstances behind the writing of the play is to review Henry’s and the country’s situation in the year when the Notebook was written, 1602.
