ABSTRACT

Obviously, most a/the rejuvenation a/the labor movement will begin in that movement itself.

Serving the membership is arguably the single most important thing locals and international unions accomplish. Members look to the business agent, local union officers, or international union representative to shield them (grievance process), aid them (bargaining), defend them (mediation and arbitration), lead them in battle (strike action), represent them (media relations), and occasionally remind them what it is all about (political action, alliances with do-gooders, community service, labor education, etc.).
