ABSTRACT

Economic, political, and cultural factors all joined forces to effect a remarkable growth in Japanese cinema in the early 1950s. The film industry was not left out of the decade's economic mirac1e, which was especially favored by the flow of procurements during the Korean War (1950-53). New construction soon restored the number oftheaters to the prewar figure of2,641. By 1959, that number had nearly tripled to 7,401.
