ABSTRACT
In the last generation, the Vnited States has created more jobs than western Europe and Japan combined. At the same time, productivity growth has been much lower in the Vnited States, and wage growth--especially for the bottom half of wage earners--has been far worse. This chapter outlines the evidence on wages and incomes, while the rest of the book describes how to avoid the trade-off many have assumed exists between equality and growth.
