ABSTRACT

Act Two opens with the band embarking on one of the pivotal events of their early career: the disastrous American tour that resulted in their four-year ban from the United States. The tour exposed the band's youth, instability, and lack of management. The tour's complexities are quickly revealed as in addition to Piven, the American Federation of Musicians is looking to collect dues from the band's performance the previous night and the Teamsters transportation union are owed some money as well. In addition to the business complexities, the tour had its share of British Invasion moments as soon the stage is engulfed with screaming female fans, with the band protected by a squad of armed police officers. The ensuing scene is a second-act highlight as the band performing their #1 hit 'Sunny Afternoon' is intertwined with an announcer calling the World Cup final between England and West Germany.
