ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the importance of the fifth influencing factor of journalism: the publication of journalism. This factor deals with aspects relating to the actual publication of the work of journalism, and the chapter starts by reviewing how practitioners and researchers in the past have modeled influences relating to this aspect of journalism. This includes work on the importance of various technological, commercial, editorial and journalistic aspects of the publication of journalism. Several researchers have, for instance, shown how technologies in the form of different platforms for the publication of journalism – such as print, radio, television and digital media – entail both problems and potentials for different types of journalism. The chapter concludes by presenting a new model that takes some of the shortcoming of previous models into account.
