ABSTRACT

This chapter presents enquiry and self-study, through which she seeks to understand more about the relationship between expressive arts and sustainability. It details long-held beliefs about the importance of expressive arts in early childhood education and throughout life, and a personal commitment to work for peace and sustainability. Children in the arts and sustainability projects also showed empathy and learned to express care and nurture. Children are seen to develop and deepen their understandings of the natural world through the telling and retelling of the stories and by re-presenting the stories and information in different modes. Children in the arts and sustainability projects also showed empathy and learned to express care and nurture. Kumara Ward observed that educators' investigations and representations of local flora and fauna led to a stronger sense of place and feelings of responsibility towards the natural environment.
