ABSTRACT

TCHAKOSI. Dialect: Anufowo, which is similar to Nzima, as spoken in the south-west corner of the Gold Coast Colony. This tribe lives in British and French Togoland, in the Chereponi and Sansanne Mango area, those in British territory having placed themselves under the Dagomba, in whose country they live. The ancestors of the Tchakosi came from the south, most likely from forest country near the present Ivory Coast/Gold Coast frontier, having been hired as mercenaries by the Dagomba or Mamprusi some centuries ago.
