ABSTRACT

Charles A. Wedemeyer (1911–1999) is recognized as one of the first educators to advocate for scholarship in the field of distance education. He invented a systems approach and then put his theory into practice, creating the ground-breaking experimental Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) program at the University of Wisconsin. This chapter casts light on Wedemeyer’s impact on the field, including the Open University of the United Kingdom, ICCE, as well as his influence on three other major theorists (Holmberg, Moore, and Peters).
