ABSTRACT

Introduction According to an analysis by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agribiotech Applications (ISAAA) (2016), since they were introduced more than twenty years ago, Genetically Modified (GM) crops have been adopted worldwide faster than any other crop technology in the history of modern agriculture. In 2016, more than 185 million hectares (457 million acres) of GM crops were planted by approximately 18 million farmers and are harvested in 26 countries around the world (ISAAA 2016).
