ABSTRACT

Facial expressions, body language and displays of emotions all trigger the street photographer's eye. The background is often part of the story and helps give a sense of time and place. Body language, facial expressions or fashion statements can all play a part in a strong composition. Shooting everything at eye level makes for static images. Street photography, like any other genre of photography, allows for a lot of creativity in composition. Tilting the camera also creates interesting effects. Going against the natural visual flow is an effective way to grab the viewer's attention. Juxtapositions in art simply mean drawing a contrast between two elements. It is a way to add interest, and sometimes an element of humour, in a photograph. Humour may very well be the toughest assignment for the street photographer. It takes a keen eye to see humour on the streets and some skills to capture it in a fraction of a second.
