ABSTRACT

This chapter explains what The 12 Apps of Christmas course was all about and discusses the nature of the data gathered. It presents what that data told us around educators' mlearning practices, and their fears and needs around its integration. In December 2014, December 2015, and again in December 2016, the learning, teaching and technology centre at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin, Ireland, compiled and delivered the course entitled "The 12 Apps of Christmas". This course is a continuing professional development opportunity designed to raise awareness among educators of the benefits mobile technologies and mobile apps present for learning, teaching, and assessment. Although participants were required to register for the course each year, it was completely free to follow and was openly accessible online. The course design each year was influenced by social constructivist learning theory. Opportunities were built into the course to encourage the participants to engage with each other, to collaborate, share, and learn.
