ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a workshop designed with six young children in Hong Kong to investigate how the art form of drama improvisation can enhance young children’s aesthetic experiences. Through an arts-based approach, the children participated in a two-hour drama improvisation workshop which included seven scenes of improvisation, a group discussion, and arts journal making. The research reveals the process of how young children encounter aesthetic experiences through drama improvisation. This work broadens our understandings about aesthetic experiences that are possible with young children, and contributes new methodological knowledge on aesthetic experiences.
