ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 explores the significance of star theory, and the potential for audiences to identify with celebrities. Edie Falco’s star persona is examined, considering the development of her career, looking at prior texts to Nurse Jackie such as Oz, The Sopranos and 30 Rock, alongside more recent work such as Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. This chapter explores the performative nature of Falco’s persona, not only discussing her nuanced and calibrated acting style, but also examining her political autobiographical potential.
