ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 considers the themes of heroism and morality with regard to the narrative meaning of Nurse Jackie. Framing the foundational significance of films that represent nuns as spiritual heroes such as in Black Narcissus and Agnes of God, an intertextual examination takes place, foregrounding “the moral imaginary”. An examination of female heroism forms a central point of analysis, involving a focus on the care of peers, and relationships between mothers and children.
