ABSTRACT

A marked feature of Ga culture is religious tolerance and respect for other people’s gods; in each Ga ‘town’ there are a large number of different cults, some participated in by all the inhabitants, some involving only a small number of worshippers; when the ‘towns’ were first founded each separate party of aboriginals and colonists had their own gods, which they continued to worship; since then, many cults have intermingled, some gods have disappeared and others, mostly war-gods, have been brought in from outside, but there has never been any conflict between the different groups of worshippers.
