ABSTRACT

A good interviewer is not only able to extract essential information from the interviewee but can also procure extraordinary quotes which will add verve and pace to an article. A good interview should be akin to a relaxed conversation. However, such a skill takes experience and practice. Rigorous research must be undertaken prior to any interview, then the interview is better equipped to ask the right questions to get the necessary quotes.

Those starting out first need to get comfortable with the interview process, focussing on making interviewees feel comfortable while developing a rapport. This chapter focusses on all of the interview process, from initial research and creating questions to interview strategies and verification skills.
