ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the reasons why people might consider the expansion of the traditional trainer role. It explains a three-step process for making the transformation; Assess people competencies, Plan for people development, and Take action. The chapter also explains the true stories of the transitions that others have made from previous careers to Human Performance Improvement (HPI). The new role of an HPI practitioner is quite different from that of a traditional trainer who designs and/or delivers classroom-based instruction. Ensuring that everyone had fully applied the Human Performance Technology framework from International Society for Performance Improvement at least three times led to some excellent team building as they each supported one another to achieve the certification. Countless articles are available on the internet if people perform a good-quality search using appropriate key words. There are also many workshops available to the public that people utilize to develop their competence in a specific area.
