ABSTRACT
A contentious issue on which no clear consensus has been reached is the proper role of economic State interventionism. Besides discussing some of the most controversial points associated with this issue, in this chapter I wish to lay in the claim that within a genuinely socialist system the State would be in a position to perform the role that was vested in it by Hegel, i.e. to serve the interests of the community at large.
