ABSTRACT

Indicators are essential to any business as they reveal the performance and status of the operations. Correct use of indicators can initiate the right actions needed to improve the business, and indicators serve as the means to measure the success of such actions. Maintenance is no exception. Terry Wireman, in his book Developing Performance Indicators for Managing Maintenance, stated that the objective of performance indicators is “to provide an overall perspective on the company’s goals, business strategies, and speciŸc objectives” [11, p. xvi]. He presented the maintenance indicators in the categories of corporate indicators, Ÿnancial performance indicators, e”ciency and e¢ectiveness performance indicators, tactical performance indicators, and functional performance indicators. Over 100 indicators were listed in Wireman’s book, and every aspect of maintenance management can have indicators to re«ect its status.
