Understanding the methodology of how Dr. Kull and his team developed the working basis from which to test the hypotheses outlined in Chapter 3 may only appeal to the academics and students who use this book as a course text or research source; however, we would encourage the practitioner not to bypass this chapter. Even if you have to return to the research methods after distilling the practical applications described, be sure to return as the methodology reflects the data-driven approach in Lean manufacturing (LM) that drives system change and improvement, as well as the way in which quality systems are developed and part quality verified.
