ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explores his first Sexual Attitudes Reassessment and Restructuring (SAR) was unforgettable and indelibly left a lasting impression that has fueled his commitment to develop and lead SAR programs worldwide that can produce the same remarkable results for others. His first SAR was a requirement for employment as a Planned Parenthood of Vermont Rural Outreach Worker in the 1970s. The SAR was located at one of the most remote centers in northeast Vermont, known as the Northeast Kingdom with a population in 2010 at under 65,000; back then it was a very low-population density region, which we jokingly called the sticks. SAR influenced the author life in other ways. When the HIV/AIDS epidemic hit home in New York City, one of the epicenters where the disease was prevalent among gay men, the author was working at the national office of Planned Parenthood. The author's SAR experience focused his dedication to sex workers and sexual surrogates.
