ABSTRACT

In a high school shooting four people are killed, 25 are wounded and 300 students are direct witnesses. This reflection focuses on the multi-year planning, response and recovery efforts of the district. Themes are: (1) The importance of crisis planning and coordinating the school district and responder agencies, (2) Handling intense and intrusive media, (3) Maintaining communication, (4) Supporting the long road to healing, (5) Providing adequate and sustainable school-based mental health services, and (6) Identifying students at risk for violence.
