ABSTRACT

This narrative describes the author’s response to three school shootings in a school district where he served as the Director of Psychological Services. The narrative describes his personal reactions to each shooting and especially the third shooting that resulted in the death of a staff member he knew well. The author describes the evolution and improvement in crisis planning in the district, and the creation of building crisis teams. He also describes how these tragedies led to his commitment to present workshops and publish books on crisis intervention, and assist the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) in developing the National Emergency Assistance Team.
