ABSTRACT
This case study describes what happened after a middle school student suddenly collapsed and died in a classroom. Teachers, students, administrators, and the school nurse were either witnesses or first responders. Unanticipated events include a student confronting crisis team members about planning for a memorial service and intrusion by media. Themes are: 1) severely traumatic incident, 2) school-wide triage, 3) media intrusion, 4) funeral and memorial issues, 5) care for the caregiver: outside help.
