ABSTRACT

This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents an overview of the monograph. This monograph offers some examples of how the aforementioned amalgam is fashioned. The organization of the intergovernmental organs' work is influenced by some time-bound customs. One of the undeniable strengths of the United Nations is its universal nature; i.e. virtually all the countries on the planet are members. The Charter is based on the principle of sovereign equality of all its member states. The number of formally recognized nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) has grown exponentially over the years, and the business sector has taken on a more pro-active role, especially with the creation of the Global Compact. At the United Nations sovereign states are often reluctant to delegate in others the responsibility of decision-making, even in its initial stages.
