ABSTRACT

To participate in Reclaiming Democracy meant to recognize the needs, perspectives, and desires of a wide variety of people in order to create more democratic spaces. For Maggie Castor, one of the primary achievements of the course was understanding the space she live in—knowing its history, how it functions, and its impact on lives. In Reclaiming Democracy she learned how education could be a more democratic practice. With a new theme, additional schools participating, and new minds to learn with, Castor know that she will be transformed again, as a philosopher, activist, and partner in creating more democratic spaces. The image of the radical, activist college campus was still salient, but it seemed to Logan Nash to have been replaced by a culture of aloofness and cynicism. But even as he internally rued the passing of student radicalism, he was slowly transforming into an activist himself.
