These two quotes bring out the centrality of Iran in terms of its geographical location and energy assets as also the Iranian ambition to make the most of these advantages. They also identify the trade embargo as a factor that
nullifies its privileged position on the global energy map. The chapter proposes to analyse Iran’s gas endowments, its gas policies and some of the gas pipelines that it has attempted to propose, revive and build to break out of the shackles around its gas production, sale and purchase.
