ABSTRACT

An electrician will use a range of different tools whilst carrying out electrical installation work and these tools will consist of equipment used to mark out, install, terminate and test a wiring system. When onsite, certain checks should be carried well before an installation is even started and includes a pre-work survey to ensure that there is no preexisting damage to the fabric of the building. Wiring systems need to be appropriate to their environment. All electrical connections need to be both electrically and mechanically sound. Various elements of an installation will require termination ranging from protective devices, switches, loads and circuit conductors. This is why different terminations were developed such as strip connectors, pillar terminal, claw washer, screw head and a nut and washer method. When electrical fires occur, the actual circuit protective device such as a fuse or circuit breaker might not operate. This is because the overall resistance has actually increased through the badly formed connection.
