ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book represents the forays into online spaces, and the work is solidly grounded in 'older' disciplines and traditions. It explores how the rise of the digital age has shaped and continues to shape the social worlds and the research activities. The book addresses the 'how' of doing digital qualitative research in sport. It focuses on the particular considerations required when working in digital environments. The book includes four chapters where researchers provide empirical examples of some of the most innovative work currently under way with respect to digital qualitative research in sport and physical activity. It focuses on mobile technology, signaling a shift in digital qualitative research in sport and physical activity towards technologies that allow us to move alongside the bodies and embodied cultures.
