Introduction

The Ila-Tonga-Lenje group of peoples inhabit the greater part of the country along the north bank of the Zambezi River, from Sesheke to approximately 50 miles below its confluence with the Kafue River, and northward to the region of the Lukanga River and swamp. A small minority of the We or Valley Tonga live on the southern side of the Zambezi.
