ABSTRACT

This chapter gives guidance on developing the intuitive skills of anticipating action and understanding the psychology of movement and screen space that are essential for good camera operating. It also includes guidance on the practical skills of choosing and using appropriate equipment to move the camera and how to work with the AC, dolly grip and props department to ensure shots work from start to finish. It looks at maintaining headroom and leadroom, and making shots match in terms of content and eyeline and details the elements you must scan for during a take. The chapter concludes with a summary of Sean Bobbitt BSC’s excellent advice on how to work with contributors and how to move smoothly and safely when shooting hand-held.
