ABSTRACT

Bringing together the body of knowledge presented throughout the book. This chapter looks at how light, lenses and photographic techniques work together to create the look of a film. It looks thoroughly at the creative and psychological impact of color. This is followed by approaches to black-and-white cinematography and how to use contrast and color filters in B&W. The chapter then looks at the significance and techniques of sharpening and softening shots using flare, halation and diffusion. It concludes by comparing which aspects of the image are most effectively controlled when shooting with those that can be enhanced most effectively in grading.
