ABSTRACT
In this concluding chapter it is intended that the rather disparate deductions made about the planning of urban and regional development should be drawn together into a more formal conceptual framework. This will show the principal categories and connections through which the planning system helps to enhance the accumulation process by assisting in the social and spatial recomposition of labour power. The relevant boxes and links which represent this fundamental relationship can be shown relatively straight forwardly. However, it is less easy to represent the dynamic aspects which we have argued are fundamental to the working out of these relationships in reality. Attempts will thus be made in textual commentary to give some flavour of the variable emphases that are brought to bear on the planning system, and which are, in turn, of influence upon the spatial division of labour over time.
