ABSTRACT

Moldova’s government has been reforming and modernizing its healthcare system which suffers from insufficient funding and outdated equipment. Siemens1 was quite successful in the healthcare market in Moldova in the past. Starting from 1994 a number of important contracts could be concluded with a yearly sales volume of approximately 2.5 million euros on average. By 2010 Siemens’s healthcare activities in the country had become rather stable, with good reputation and considerable market share as well as deep enough market penetration. Healthcare Imaging Market share of Siemens in Moldova was in the range of 30 percent to 80 percent; competitors were mainly GE Healthcare (GE) and Toshiba Medical Systems (Toshiba):

• Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT): Siemens 80 percent, GE 20 percent; • Computed tomography (CT): Siemens 60 percent, GE 30 percent, Toshiba

10 percent; • Ultrasound (US): Siemens 30 percent, GE 30 percent, Toshiba 30 percent, the

rest Aloka; • Digital X-ray: Siemens 60 percent, the rest Philips and Shimadzu.
