ABSTRACT

Every acting teacher I ever studied with had an impact on my work, some more than others. The three that influenced me the most were Aaron Frankel, Nikos Psacharopoulos, and Michael Shurtleff—all different, all brilliant in their own way. There were many other acting teachers that came before them, teachers that influenced not only these three men but countless numbers of actors as well. People like Constantin Stanislavski, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Uta Hagen; the list goes on. They all had a huge impact on the “American” style of acting. Some of the ideas they espoused and the language they used are still being used today and you’ll encounter a few of those ideas and some of that language in this book.
