ABSTRACT
The Bantu-speaking peoples of the Great Lakes region of East-Central Africa, that is the region to the north and west of Lake Victoria, bounded on the north by Lake Kyoga and the Somerset Nile, and on the west and south-west by Lakes Albert, Edward, Kivu and Tanganyika, numbered in 1961 about million.
