ABSTRACT

The children work together as a team, controlling the Lycra synchronising their movements and maintaining their self-control so that the toy bounces as required. This demands of each child a great awareness of the whole group, to actively listen, watch and work as part of the team to achieve their common goal. Puppets of various types and sizes can be used to great effect when singing with young children. Pop-up puppets are a highly versatile and useful resource. Magical resources can be used in much the same way as a pop-up puppet, example to courage solo singing or the accuracy of singing with slightly older children. Musical instruments are used most effectively in childhood through supported individual free play. Instruments can also be utilised to provide a different texture and/or timbre when used in very small numbers as an accompaniment to a song.
