ABSTRACT
This chapter seeks to provide you with a brief summary of the major
approaches to the study of crime. It does not seek to give a comprehen-
sive account of all theories that have been put forward over the centu-
ries to explain criminal behaviour but, rather, covers the key areas and
ideas that form a starting point for your studies of criminology.
